Mittermeyer's line saying that they're useless outside battle was sad, they probably think that Reinhard isn't over Kircheis' death but do not know what they can do to help him. There doesn't seem to be anyone around Reinhard that he can freely act around. Plus, seeing Reinhard clenching his locket numerous times this episode was also sad, I guess he wants to fulfill Kircheis' wish as soon as he can.

It is one of the big problem of the many Armies coup. While soldiers and general may know how to control the country and hold them using military. They are almost 99% incompetent in anything outside Military.

Thats one of the reason why Reinhard is great. He is easily a great civil officer as well as Admiral. That lead him to be able to do things that actually benefit many of the people rather than hoarding the whole thing for military.

it's been so long since i saw season 1 that watching this i was mad disappointed since it seemed like they skipped the entire civil war and one of the most important scenes, kircheis's death. that soundtrack that played as he was looking at both ships at the end was well done and the outro song is great. reinhard doesn't have or trust anyone to share his thoughts and feelings with ever since his homie died, seems like he's put himself on auto pilot at the moment just pushing forward

I do love Reinhard's ability to make former enemies like streit into allies, it was a smart political move

Easily one of the best episode especially in character building of this new season vs the old OVA. It actually takes loads of time to build up and show how the Empire react after Reinhard take over power as Prime Minister.

It also show the lesser evil behind Reinhard where he usefully use propaganda and push for lesser change toward poor farmers by pushing less useful/advantageous policies to those people to please them on his image rather than really for the growth of those people.

So while Reinhard indeed is reforming a lot, there are some part he smartly did to please the people to support him while ensuring that those people would not grow to enjoyable with their lives that they would not want to be soldier. A great back and forth on great reformer policies there.
